The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.
My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
Plain English
"Let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth." John means do not stop at talk, and tongue means speech. Love needs deed, which means action, and truth, which means it is real and not a show. Kind sentences matter, and they are not the whole of love.
Devotional
"Call me if you need anything" can be sincere, and it can also leave the need sitting there. Love in deed picks up the groceries, gives the ride, or sits with the person. Truth means you do not advertise a care you never plan to practice.
