The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.

Matthew 22:37-38King James Version

Plain English

Jesus said to him, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind." Thou means you, and thy means your. Heart, soul, and mind means the whole inner life, not a corner of Sunday feeling. He calls this "the first and great commandment," so nothing outranks loving God.

Devotional

You can care about a person with part of you and keep another part back. Jesus does not ask for a slice of love toward God. He says love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind, while you cook, worry, decide, and rest. That whole-life love is the first and great commandment.
