The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.

Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18King James Version

Plain English

Paul gives three short commands: "Rejoice evermore," "Pray without ceasing," and "In every thing give thanks." Evermore means always, without ceasing means do not quit praying, and in every thing means in every situation. Giving thanks in hard things does not mean calling evil good. "This is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."

Devotional

You can thank God while you sweep a porch and the news is still heavy. Joy here is not a fake grin. It is a choice to rejoice, to keep praying through the day, and to give thanks in everything. Paul says that pattern is God's will in Christ Jesus for you.
