The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.

Psalm 4:8King James Version

Plain English

"I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety." Lay me down means lie down, and thou means you. The singer can sleep because the Lord is the One who makes him live in safety. Sleep, in this verse, can be an act of trust rather than a failure to watch.

Devotional

Some nights you keep one ear open, as if guarding the dark were your job. The psalm hands that job back to the Lord. You lie down in peace and sleep, because He makes you dwell in safety. Closing your eyes is not careless when the Lord is the One who keeps you.
