The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

John 8:12King James Version

Plain English

Jesus says, "I am the light of the world," and that whoever follows Him "shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." Followeth means follows. Darkness is a life without God's direction, where you stumble and guess. He does not only describe the light, because He Himself is the light of life for people who follow Him.

Devotional

The steps are hard to find until someone leaves a light on. You put your foot where the glow hits the wood, and you do not have to guess where the edge is. Jesus calls Himself the light of the world. People who follow Him are not left to walk the dark with only their own hunches.
