The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

James 1:22King James Version

Plain English

James says, "Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." Be ye means you are called to act on what you hear, because hearing is meant to become doing. If we only listen, we can fool ourselves into thinking we have obeyed. Good deeds do not earn salvation, but they show that we took God's word seriously.

Devotional

On Sunday the reading was clear, and on Monday the faucet still drips because you only agreed with what you heard. The towel is damp, the wrench is in the drawer, and the task is small enough to finish. Faith that only nods is not what James describes. The word you heard is waiting to be done at an ordinary sink.
