The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.

Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

Luke 6:36King James Version

Plain English

Jesus says, "Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful." Be ye means you are to be this way. Your Father is the pattern, not your mood. Mercy is kindness toward someone in need, including someone who has failed, and it grows from the mercy the Father has already shown.

Devotional

A neighbor dents your trash can, stands in the driveway, and studies his shoes. You could stretch the moment into a speech about carelessness. Your Father in heaven is merciful, and He asks you to be merciful too. You help set the can upright and let the shame be enough.
