The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Ephesians 4:29King James Version

Plain English

Paul says to let no "corrupt communication" come out of your mouth, but only what is good for "edifying," so it may "minister grace unto the hearers." Corrupt communication is rotten talk. Edifying means building up, and minister grace means giving a kindness that helps the person who hears. Words should leave people with help, not with rot.

Devotional

Supper is on the table, and the talk turns to a relative who is not in the room. A cutting line would get a laugh and leave a stain. You can change the subject or say something true and kind. Speech that builds people up is one way grace reaches the ones who have to hear you.
