The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.

This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

Titus 3:8King James Version

Plain English

Paul says people who have believed in God should "be careful to maintain good works," because these things are "good and profitable unto men." Profitable means helpful to people, and maintain means to keep the works going rather than to do them once. He is talking to people who already believe, so the works do not buy salvation. They are a steady good that helps real neighbors.

Devotional

A weekly visit to a lonely person is less exciting the tenth time, and the ride you promised a neighbor can feel like one more item on a list. Careful upkeep is the point. Good works that help people are worth continuing after the first warm feeling fades. You already belong to God by faith, and this is part of a useful life.
