The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

John 16:33King James Version

Plain English

Jesus says He spoke so that "in me ye might have peace," and He adds, "In the world ye shall have tribulation," and "I have overcome the world." Ye means you, tribulation means trouble, and "be of good cheer" means take heart. He does not promise an easy world. He promises peace in Himself, because He has overcome the world.

Devotional

The week has already included a sharp bill and a friend who is ill, and the house feels noisy with worry. Jesus said trouble in this world is certain, so you are not failing Him by meeting it. Peace is in Him, not in the absence of problems. Take heart, because He has overcome the world that is pressing on you.
