The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.
He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
Plain English
'Slow to anger' is better than being mighty, because a loud win is not the same as real strength. 'He that ruleth his spirit' means the person who governs himself. That person is better than one who takes a city, so self-control outranks overpowering someone else.
Devotional
You are stacking wood, and a sharp reply is already in your mouth. You could win the moment and lose the afternoon. Ruling your spirit means you choose the slower word, and that quiet strength is worth more than the last shot in an argument.
