The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
Plain English
'I say unto you' means I say to you, and Jesus says to love your enemies. Bless them, do good to them, and pray for people who despitefully use you, which means mistreat you, and persecute you. This love is real and hard, and it does not mean letting abuse continue.
Devotional
You can pray for a person who spoke cruelly about you, and you can refuse to pay them back in the same coin. You can also lock the door, leave the room, or ask for help. Love seeks a person's good and tells the truth, and it does not sit still while someone keeps doing harm.
