The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
Plain English
"Blessed is the man that endureth temptation" means there is a blessing for the person who stays faithful through the trial. "When he is tried" means when the test has done its work. That person "shall receive the crown of life," which the Lord "hath promised," has promised, "to them that love him." The blessing is not that the trial felt easy, and it is a promised crown for love that holds on.
Devotional
A husband keeps the porch light on and the medicine sorted through a long year of his wife's illness. He is tired, and some days he is short with people. Endurance is not a spotless record. It is loving the Lord enough to stay, with the crown of life still ahead.
