The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.
Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
Plain English
Habakkuk looks at a failed farm. The fig tree will not blossom, the vines have no fruit, the olive crop fails, and the fields yield "no meat," no food. The flock is gone, and there is "no herd in the stalls", and then he says, "Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation." He tells the truth about the empty stalls and still rejoices in the God who saves him.
Devotional
The fig tree in the yard is bare, the tomato vines are black with frost, and the chicken pen is empty. Habakkuk listed a farm like that and did not pretend the stalls were full. Yet he would rejoice in the Lord, the God of his salvation. You can name what failed and still rejoice in God.
