The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

1 Thessalonians 5:18King James Version

Plain English

Paul says to give thanks "in every thing," in every circumstance, because "this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." It does not say that every painful event is good, or that you must thank God for the hurt itself. Thanks still has a place in the hard thing, because this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Devotional

One chair is empty at the table, and the rolls are still warm. You do not thank God that the chair is empty. You can still thank him in that room, for the people who came and for care that has not left. "In every thing give thanks" is a way to live inside real life, and it is God's will in Christ Jesus.
