The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.
But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
Plain English
"He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully", and soweth means plants or gives, and a thin planting brings a thin harvest. Give "not grudgingly, or of necessity," not with a resentful heart and not because you feel forced, "for God loveth a cheerful giver." "God is able to make all grace abound toward you," so that, having enough, you "may abound to every good work." The point is supply for good work, not a promise that giving makes you rich.
Devotional
You set an extra can in the food-pantry box at church, and you can do it with a sigh, or you can do it gladly. Paul says God loves a cheerful giver, and that a bountiful sowing is different from a sparing one. God is able to give you grace so you can abound in good work. Generosity is the aim, not a scheme to get wealthy.
