The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.
Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
Plain English
"Give, and it shall be given unto you." Jesus pictures "good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over," like grain packed into a cup until it spills into "your bosom," your lap. "With the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again." Mete means the measure you use, and Jesus is teaching a generous heart, and he is not offering a way to get rich.
Devotional
A cook packs brown sugar into the measuring cup, presses it down, shakes it, and watches it mound over the rim. Jesus used that kind of full measure. Give, and a good measure, pressed down and running over, is the picture he gives. Use a generous measure of mercy and help today, and do not turn the saying into a promise of cash back.
