The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.

Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Ephesians 5:20King James Version

Plain English

"Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." The thanks go to God the Father, in Jesus' name, and the habit is "always." "For all things" is a wide call to that habit, and it is not a rule that you must call every hurt a good gift. You can thank the Father for his care, and for the gifts he gives, even on a hard day.

Devotional

You are stopped at a long light, and the day has already included one sharp disappointment. Ephesians still says to give thanks always for all things to God the Father, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. You can thank him for his steady care without naming the hurt as a blessing. The thanks have a direction: to the Father, through Jesus.
