Plain English
"The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy." Gracious means kind, and full of compassion means he cares deeply, and slow to anger means he is not quick to flare up. "The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works." Tender mercies are gentle mercies, and they cover everything he has made.

A grandfather is slow to raise his voice when a grandchild knocks a glass of milk across the table. He wipes it up and keeps his seat. The psalm says the Lord is gracious, full of compassion, slow to anger, and of great mercy. His tender mercies are over all his works, and his patience gives you a pattern for your own table.
