"We love him, because he first loved us" puts the order where it belongs. Our love for God is an answer, not the starting point. He loved us before we knew how to love Him back.

Devotional

A grandparent can love a baby long before that child can say the words. The baby does not earn the rocking, the food, or the night watch. In the same way, you love God because He loved you first.
