Plain English
"Above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins." Charity means love, and fervent means warm and steady, not cold or rare. Love covering many sins means love is willing to forgive many faults. It does not mean hiding abuse or calling serious harm a small thing.
Devotional
A slight can get retold on the phone until it becomes the whole story of a person. Fervent love does not keep a pile of old faults ready for the next call. It can cover many sins by forgiving them. That is different from pretending a deep wound never happened.
