The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
Plain English
"This is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us." Heareth means hears. The confidence is not that we can rename our wishes as orders, but that when we ask according to His will, He hears us. If we know He hears us, we know we have "the petitions that we desired of him," the requests we asked.
Devotional
A child can ask a parent for something harmful and be refused out of love. A child can also ask for what the parent already longs to give, and ask with a steady voice. John puts our confidence there: ask according to God's will, and know that He hears. That asking is bold and humble at the same time.
