The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.
I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
Plain English
Jesus says, "I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep." Giveth means gives. The sheep are the people He loves and leads. A hired hand can run when danger shows up, but the good shepherd stays and gives his life for the flock.
Devotional
A dog slips its collar near a busy road, and the owner does not stay on the grass and shout advice. He steps closer and puts himself between the animal and the cars. Jesus does more than that for His people. He gives His life for the sheep.
