Plain English
Paul says, "Whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." Word or deed means what you say and what you do. In His name means under His authority and for His honor. Thanks to God the Father belongs with the words and the work.
Devotional
The phone rings while your hands are busy, and the voice on the other end is already irritated. You can answer with a snap, or you can answer in a way you would not be ashamed to tie to Jesus' name. Ordinary words are part of serving Him. Gratitude can sit inside a calm hello.
