The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.
Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.
Plain English
Solomon says, "Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad." Heaviness means worry or grief, and maketh it stoop means it bends a person down. A good word can lift that weight and make the heart glad. You only need a true, kind sentence, not a long speech.
Devotional
A friend stands by the mailbox with a bill smoothed flat under both hands, shoulders rounded as if the paper were stone. You cannot pay every debt in the neighborhood. You can say, "I am glad you told me," and mean it. A good word will not erase the bill, and it can still make a stooped heart glad.
