The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.
Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
Plain English
Peter says to be compassionate, to love as family, to be "pitiful" and courteous, and not to repay "evil for evil, or railing for railing," but to give a blessing instead. Pitiful here means tenderhearted, and railing means a harsh insult. Do not trade wrong for wrong. God called His people to inherit a blessing, so blessing is the reply that fits.
Devotional
A driver cuts you off and then gestures as if you were the problem. Your horn and your vocabulary are both ready. Peter says the answer is not insult for insult. A quiet blessing, even a wish for their safety spoken under your breath, keeps you from copying the harm.
