The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.
Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.
Plain English
Nehemiah told a grieving people, "The joy of the LORD is your strength." He also said to eat the good food, drink the sweet drink, and send portions to those for whom nothing was prepared. "Neither be ye sorry" means do not stay crushed with grief on that holy day. The joy he names is the Lord's gift, not a forced cheerfulness you must fake for the crowd.
Devotional
The table is full, and you do not feel bubbly. Someone nearby came with little prepared and a heavy week besides. You can pass the good food and sit with them without pasting on a smile. The Lord's joy is a strength He gives, a steady gift because He is good, even when your feelings are slow to rise.
