The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

Psalm 91:1-2King James Version

Plain English

The psalm says the one who "dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." Dwelleth means lives, and abide means stay. The secret place is close nearness to God, and the shadow is shelter, like shade from heat. He calls the Lord his refuge and fortress, the God in whom he will trust.

Devotional

On a hot afternoon the yard is too bright, and the shade under a large tree is a different country. You step into it, and your shoulders drop. Living near God is like staying in that shelter on purpose, not darting through. He is a refuge and a fortress for the person who trusts Him.
