The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

Psalm 51:1King James Version

Plain English

'Have mercy upon me' asks God to act according to lovingkindness, which means loyal, steady love. Thy means your, and the multitude of tender mercies means His great store of gentle mercy. 'Blot out my transgressions' means wipe my wrongs away, and David starts with mercy rather than a bargain.

Devotional

A spill spreads if you stare at it and do nothing. Blotting it takes a hand and a cloth, right away. Bring the wrong to God's lovingkindness and tender mercies before you try to negotiate a lesser punishment.
