The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

Exodus 20:12King James Version

Plain English

'Honour thy father and thy mother' means give your father and mother respect and care. That old word means honor, and thy means your. The verse connects that honor with life in the land the Lord was giving, and honor does not mean staying in a situation where someone is being hurt.

Devotional

Honor can look like a phone call, a visit, a patient answer, or help with a practical need. It can also look like telling the truth with kindness. If someone is being hurt, the faithful step is to get to safety and get help.
