The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.

He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.

Proverbs 19:17King James Version

Plain English

The person who has pity on the poor 'lendeth unto the Lord,' which means lends to the Lord. Hath means has. God will repay what was given, in His way and His time, and this is not a scheme for getting rich.

Devotional

A bag of groceries on a neighbor's step is a small thing in a budget and a large thing in a hard week. God treats pity for the poor as a loan to Himself. Give because mercy is right, and trust Him with the repaying.
