The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.

We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

2 Corinthians 4:8-9King James Version

Plain English

Paul tells the truth in pairs. "Troubled on every side, yet not distressed" means pressed from all sides, but not crushed. "Perplexed, but not in despair" means confused, but not out of hope. "Persecuted, but not forsaken" and "cast down, but not destroyed" mean opposed and knocked down, yet not abandoned and not finished.

Devotional

A pickup slides into a soft ditch on a muddy lane. The driver is stuck, shaken, and late. The frame of the truck is not broken, and Paul knew that kind of day. Trouble can pin you in, and God can still keep you from being destroyed.
