The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

Psalm 42:11King James Version

Plain English

The writer talks to his own heart, asking why it is "cast down," bowed down, and "disquieted," restless within him. He then tells himself to "hope thou in God," which means hope in God. He is sure he will yet praise the one who is "the health of my countenance," the God who restores his face.

Devotional

The house is quiet after supper, and a woman stands at the sink talking to her own heart. The sadness has no tidy reason she wants to explain to company. She asks her soul why it is cast down, and she tells it to hope in God. She believes a day of praise is still ahead.
