The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.

I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

John 14:18King James Version

Plain English

Jesus says he will not leave his friends "comfortless," which means he will not leave them like orphans, without a father's care. He promises, "I will come to you." Loneliness can be real, and his answer is his own coming, not a scolding.

Devotional

The last child has driven away, and the house sounds too large. You wash one cup and feel the quiet settle in the rooms. Jesus told his friends he would not leave them comfortless. He would come to them, and if you belong to him, you are not an orphan in this world.
