The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Psalm 136:1King James Version

Plain English

This song opens by calling us to give thanks to the Lord, "for he is good," and because "his mercy endureth for ever." That line means his mercy never runs out, and the rest of the song answers with those same words. Thanks is the right start, because that mercy does not expire.

Devotional

You wash the dishes and hum the same thank-you line until the sink is empty. Psalm 136 is built that way. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his mercy endures forever. Saying it again is not empty when the mercy is that long.
