The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Plain English
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights." Good and complete gifts come down from God, the maker of heaven's lights. "With whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning" means he does not shift, and he does not flicker like a shadow when the light moves. People change their minds, and the Father who gives good gifts does not.
Devotional
Morning light lands on a plain cup of coffee and then slides off the table as the sun moves. James says every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, from the Father of lights. With him there is no shadow of turning, and the cup is a small gift. The Giver does not change when the patch of light does.
