The reading changes at midnight Central Time, and it stays the same all day.
Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Plain English
"Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us." Tender mercy is gentle mercy, and dayspring means the dawn, and "from on high" means from heaven, and hath visited us means has come to us. He comes "to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace." The coming one is a sunrise for people sitting in the dark, and he leads their feet onto a path of peace.
Devotional
You drive a dark road before sunrise, and then the sky goes pale enough to show the edge of the pavement. Zechariah called this mercy the dayspring from on high, the dawn that has visited us. He gives light to people who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death. He guides our feet into the way of peace.
